Autocomplete for every app on your Mac.
Completist suggests your next few words as you type, in Slack, Mail, your browser and almost any other app. Press Tab to take them, one word at a time. It all runs on your Mac, so what you write stays private.
For Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) on macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
How it works
Type. Glance. Tab.
There's nothing new to learn. Completist sits in your menu bar and joins in wherever you type.
Type as you normally would
In Slack, Mail, your browser or almost any other app. No new window to open and nothing to copy and paste.
See your next words in grey
A suggestion appears right at your cursor, in a lighter shade of your own text. In chat apps it fits the conversation on screen.
Press Tab to take a word
Each press takes one more word. Don't like it? Keep typing and it steps aside, or press Esc to hide it.
Behind the scenes, a small AI model on your Mac reads the text before your cursor, plus the conversation on screen in chat apps, and predicts what you'll write next. It's downloaded once, then works without the internet.
Features
Quick, private, and everywhere you write
Faster than a blink
A suggestion shows up about 80 milliseconds after you pause, so it keeps pace with your typing instead of interrupting it.
Median time with the default model on an M3 Pro.
In all your apps
No plugins, browser extensions or copy and paste. If it has a text box, Completist can usually help.

Private by design
The AI runs on your Mac's own chip. What you type is never sent anywhere, and never saved.
- No cloud, and no account to create
- Never reads password fields
- Works offline after a one-time download
Knows the conversation
In Slack, Teams, WhatsApp and other chats, it reads the messages on screen, so a suggested reply fits what was said.
One word at a time
Tab takes a single word, so you only accept what you mean. Your sentences stay in your own voice.
Light on your Mac
Lives in the menu bar and uses under 1 GB of memory with the default model. The AI only works while you type.
Stays out of the way
It skips password fields, leaves Tab alone in code editors, and steps aside the moment you keep typing.
Make it yours
Pick short, medium or long suggestions, switch mid-sentence suggestions on or off, or choose a larger AI model.
See what you've saved
Statistics count the words you've accepted each day and the typing time they add up to.

Does anything I type leave my Mac?
No. The AI model runs on your Mac, and what you type is never sent anywhere or saved. Completist only uses the internet to download a model the first time. After that you can switch Wi-Fi off and it keeps working.
Which Macs does it run on?
Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Intel Macs aren't supported, because the AI relies on Apple silicon's graphics chip to be fast.
Which apps does it work in?
Most apps where you type: Slack, Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Mail, Notes, Safari, Arc, Firefox, Claude and many more. It stays out of password fields, and out of code editors such as VS Code's, where Tab already has a job.
Why does it ask for Accessibility access?
macOS asks you to allow it for any app that reads the text box you're typing in or responds to keys like Tab. Completist uses it for exactly that. You can switch it off at any time in System Settings, under Privacy & Security.
What is Screen Recording for? Do I need it?
It's optional. A few apps, like Claude and chats in a web browser, don't share their conversation with other apps. With Screen Recording allowed, Completist reads the conversation from a picture of that window instead. That happens on your Mac, and the picture is never saved.
Will it slow my Mac down?
Not noticeably. The default model uses under 1 GB of memory, and the AI only works while you're typing. If your Mac has memory to spare, you can pick a larger model in Settings.
Does it learn from what I write?
No. Suggestions come from a general-purpose model plus what's on screen at that moment. Completist doesn't store your writing or train on it. It only counts the words you accept, for your statistics.
Can I pause it?
Yes. Switch suggestions off from the menu bar icon whenever you like, or press Esc to hide a single suggestion.
How much does it cost?
Nothing while it's in beta. At launch, Completist will be a small one-time purchase: pay once and keep it, with no subscription. More on pricing.
How is it different from Cotypist?
Cotypist inspired Completist, and it's a great app with more features today. Completist keeps things simple, private and light, and you'll pay for it once instead of every month. See the full comparison.
Does Completist collect any data?
Only anonymous usage counts, sent once a day: how many suggestions appeared and were accepted in each app, how quickly they appeared, and which settings and kind of Mac you use. It never sends what you type or what's on screen. To see exactly what's sent, or to turn it off, open Completist's Settings, then General, then Privacy.
Type less, say more.
Completist is free while it's in beta. Download it, allow Accessibility access, and start pressing Tab.
